Background
Cat's outta the bag, so here goes.
Marie's story starts about eight years before she was born,
with the wizard Lucas Nightshade. Lucas was not a kind man, and would brook no
opposition, but he was willing to allow assorted religions and adventurers
to call his kingdom home. A happy populace would serve him better than
an angry and sullen populace would. In the year 522, Lucas became more militant
and began to take steps to expand his territory. In the year 525, Lucas
summoned the pit fiend Magraravich to Parasonnea.
This was easily the greatest blunder in Lucas' career.
Magraravich slew Lucas, and then took his place.
Magraravich, acting as Lucas, outlawed and demanded the re-locations
of many people that Lucas had previously tolerated. Naturally, people
protested this unexpected reversal in attitude. At this point the
world, quite unaware of what had actually happened, learned that not only had "Lucas'"
temperament drastically deteriorated, but that his power had drastically increased.
Magraravich moved swiftly to annihilate all opposition.
A prominent temple dedicated to Aurora, the goddess of the arts, was among the
groups that had made the mistake of protesting "Lucas'" mandate. The devil lord
came in person to Ilian to silence the opposition.
This is where Cherie SilverRose enters this whole mess.
Cherie was a young, recently married priestess when "Lucas" arrived at the
temple. Casually throwing around Unhallow and Mass Charm spells,
Margraravich was able to bring even the high priests of the temple under his
temporary control. Magraravich casually seperated the young and inexperienced
from the older clergy. He then casually incinerated the older clerics
(including Cherie's husband) right in front of the acolytes and newly
annointed.
The survivors were then sent into slavery, many of them
never to be seen again. Cherie, however, was not shipped off with the others.
She struck the baatezu's fancy, and so he chose her to join the ranks of his personal
slaves. Ultimately, Magraravich started some genetic experimentation, forcing his
slaves to bear his children; said children tended to show acute concentration of certain
traits, and were appearantly the first steps in an experiment that would result in an
ultimate baatezu warrior. Thus, the circumstances of Marie's conception came about.
Marie was born approximately six months after the death of Magraravich at the
hands of the Six.
I'll stick something here eventually
After completing her training under Mark Alan Louis, Marie
parted ways with him and decided to make her own way in the world. This involved a
journey that would have ultimately ended with returning back to Cherie's temple,
after the young bard had seen most of the world. However, Marie's plans were
thoroughly wrecked by reality.
On the world of Asteria, the King of Mellek has continued
Magraravitch's experiment. Armies "led" by tiefling killing machines are now
subjugating the lands around Mellek. Currently, 33 of these tieflings are known to
exist. Marie's companions are currently doing what they can to reduce that number,
and hope to ultimately deal with the king himself. Hopefully, they'll be able figure
out just how this all came about, and then how to bring it to an end.

- A red gemstone that can be used to detect those with devil DNA within 300 yards
or so; since the gemstone starts giving off light pulses once it's
in range, distance can be determined by the amount of time between light
pulses. Additional properties are unknown, but abjurational, and even
psionic in nature. Additional notes: when activated via Use Magic Device, the abjuration
effect is some sort of anti-tiefling protection, which causes tieflings to feel slight nausea.
