The party takes time off in Benden City to commision needed magical items. Following a successful date, a budding romance between Naru and Ian goes sour after Ian becomes enraptured while training under a charismatic Dragonrider of Valos named Kevinna. Naru's jealous machinations are brought to an end by Kevinna's departure with new orders.
Also, the party rescues the kidnapped daughter of a merchant from an odd group of bandits hiding in a riverside cave.

The party helps a noble human bard named Darias of Ryslin obtain a shocker lizard so he can return to human form after he was changed into a bugbear by a wizard. They travelled to Marcola where they retrieved a shocker lizard from Beastland's Tower. Afterwards, Darian of Rysfin impregnated Naru during a night of passion.

The comet that has marred the skies for weeks eclipses the moon and then explodes, raining shards of rock imbued with dark power upon the Southlands. Thus the death of Zalenkas came to pass, and Skull of Ashes became the Lord of the Undead. The party heads underground on the advice of Taxil Necrobane and meets up with a stone giant named Roacloze. They all head out to find a earth mephit named Limpik.

With Limpik's guidance, the party makes the trek towards a surface exit via the Bridgways of the Ancients, where they suffer greatly obtaining victory over a drow ambush seeeking vengeance. Killed in the battle are Zoffar, Naru, and Pyxis.
Coming up beneath Benden City, they find that the city has decended into madness, and the nobles are being publicly stripped and auctioned as a result of revolt. The party establishes contact with the resistance, but does not share the resistance's strategy of small victories. Zoffar, Naru, and Pyxis are resurrected, and party members begin to question their motivation to adventure.
Summoned to a clearing outside of town by Taxil Necrobane, Taxil charges the party with a divine quest to eliminate the remaining presence of Zalenkas in the Southlands. Taxil gives his life to create 5 "White Stones" which can counteract Zalenkas' powerful "Black Stones". Boffar, Ian, Naru, Pyxis, and Zoffar each recieve a stone because each of them is a descendant of one of Taxil's previous incarnations. If they refuse the quest, they must pass the stones to other Taxil descendants.

Boffar, Zoffar, and Pyxis decline the quest Taxil entrusted them with and prepare to leave for the Dwarven Homelands along with Ruryk, Franchesca, and Boozer. Their White Stones are entrusted to Ian for bestowal upon other Taxil descendants. Naru, Ian, Amber, and Ruryk undertake a quest to discover the fate of some missing children. Aiding them are the resistance member Tethyr Nightbreeze, a scholarly wizard named Isis Goldpetal, a a mysterious elf named Zhyu Kyex. All three of them are Taxil descendants and are given White Stones. The party defeats a mysterious vampiric creature.
